Short Story

Hello Everyone! My name is Grim Jackson & I am the CEO of Project Re-Up. I am a 3 time World Champion Slam Poet, and have been a full time poet since 16 years old. There are so many ups and downs inconsistency and struggles when it comes to being a self employed independent artist trying to make a living. I have traveled since 16 years old all across the country featuring at open mics and winning slams stepping outside of my local arts scene into the national Spoken Word Community. A community that has non-profit organisations all across the country that have been connected through Poetry Slams & Open Mics for years. I have learned over years of winning slams and performing for money, that community support and platforms are the most important piece of an independent artists stability and success.

After Covid happened all of the public events and money in the community immediately stopped. No audience meant no money, no money meant no venue, No venue meant no open mic, no feature, and no more artistic economy. Creatives where forced to go online and the personal experience that was the open mic died. All of the Spoken word communities in America have been disconnected and dismantled by quarantine. This not only affected spoken word poets. According to a report from Americans for the Arts. The creative industries in America such as museums, symphonies, and theaters — employ 3.48 million people across the United States, According to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, the arts and culture sector adds $730 billion into the economy every year, 4.2 percent of the United States Gross Domestic Capital and holds a larger share of the US economy than transportation, tourism, agriculture, and construction. If the spoken word community is only a minor fraction of the artistic economy. How many different creative communities and industries across the country have been disrupted the same way?

This is a prime example of why Project Re-Up is needed within Communities. When it comes to promoting yourself in this new Era of technology one may argue organic marketing is dead. You need a 3rd party platform to drive traffic to your website. Why not just pay $10 a month to get a completely customizable Re-Up profile where you can feature all of your content, resume, sell your merchandise, host online events, make cross platform posts, post your events and interact with your following al while you build your brand with public traffic. When it comes to looking for open mics now, you must scavage instagram for creatives and influencers who are hosting online events. Project Re-Up now offers an online event calendar so Creatives no longer have to search the internet for events. They can log on to Project Re-Up post and view their favorite creatives events or search for local events happening by state. When you need a graphic designer for your album cover, book a local designer in your hometown on Project Re-Up. Auction off your visual art! No more having to try to plan a tour when you have a list of bookable venues by state? Book Studio time at a local studio! Black owned drop shipping? We got that! Digital Marketing and Live Stream? We have that too! We have many many many features planned for Project Re-Up, built to support Creatives all across the country! It’s time for a platform that serves the creative.

Where are we now? Project Re-Up currently offers Support for Baltimore, Virtual and Texas events on our event calendar. In addition to the calendar our resource page offers a list of all State Orgs that give grants for creatives & links to their websites. We are currently working on volunteer and investing our own funds into the business. We are launching this fundraising campaign to raise $10000 to fund our first initiative. We have the ambition to offer support nation wide but we must first scale our product down. With the funds raised from Operation Connect Baltimore we plan to put our money into Retail, Digital Marketing & new website feature updates such as profiles, venue search, 24 hour youtube stream, and service board. We also have the goal of achieving 50 paid subscribers and 500 website subscribers within a year. Consistently connecting at least 10 venues with consumers and creatives monthly. Baltimore is the community that has fed me for years. It’s time for me to feed my community.

We Plan to Give away multiple Promotion packages, Nfts and more to our funders in exchange for their donation. Supplies for our tier system will last until funding is met. Excess funds will be taken as charitable donations. Any funds donated that you do not desire to be rewarded for please attach to the donation.
