In an area of Baltimore City where 41.7% of residents live below the poverty level, holidays pose a level of food insecurity that no child or family should experience. We hope that by offering these Thanksgiving Food Baskets that we provide more than a meal, but an opportunity for families to come together and spend quality time without financial burden.

I am the Community School Coordinator at Arundel Elementary School and I take pride in my role which goes beyond the coordinating of services and resources. Our school families depend on the Community School Coordinator to listen to their needs and work with the community to provide as many opportunities to support the success of their scholar, family and community. Last school year we collected enough food to distribute 50 Thanksgiving Food Baskets to our families that requested the support. Families begin reaching out as soon as school starts each year to ask how we are able to support this Holiday season, not if, but how. They know we understand the barriers they are up against to provide basic essentials regularly, and that the holiday season brings about uncertainty for how they will support their family. This pandemic has highlighted the needs of our community, Cherry Hill Baltimore. Even with the government programs that have been put in place to assist families, we still face a gap in resources within our community.

We believe that if others knew how to help, that they would. We believe that all the good we put into the world will help us continue to spread good karma. Support our school families!
